How Wizards Stay Connected! *my.diaryofawizard.com*
I have been debating starting a blog dedicated to my new found love for Wizard101. At first, I thought I'd just host it over on Wordpress, where I host a few of my other blogs (which I won't mention here.) Instead, I heard about Diary of a Wizard on one of my favorite podcasts, Ravenwood Radio. Wow, what a great show that is! And what a great website DoaW is, as well! When Stephen Spiritcaller wrote up a blog post about how amazing this place is, I knew I had sign up.
I would like to introduce myself a little bit - I'm Deirdre Rosethorn, a death wizard who started playing back in February. I used to play a plethora of other MMORPGs, most notably...World of Warcraft. It's kind of funny, going World of Warcraft to Wizard101 since they don't have much in common, but that was also sort of the point. After getting fed up with the community and just fed up with the game in general, I began looking around for something new. I tried practically everything but found myself coming back to Wizard101 again and again.
This was the first time since World of Warcraft that an MMO was actually sticking, and I was absolutely floored that it was this game. This game is so incredibly surprising to me because...well, I am an adult. I am married, but we don't have any children of our own. At first I felt a little silly playing the game. I asked my good friend and podcast co-host, Leesha Darkheart, "isn't that game just for little kids?" and she laughed and replied back, "no, adults like it too."
I took her word for it and well...the rest is history. I'm now in my mid 30s, working my way through Marleybone. The best part is that I managed to get my spouse involved too! His favorite thing to do in game is level up his pets and compete in the pet derby races. Me? I love gardening, hanging out in my Sultan's Palace and dabbling in PvP from time to time. There is just something so magical and endearing about this little game, and I look forward to playing it for a long time to come (and blogging about it!)
I'm also leveling an alt named Esmee Lotusblossom, a life wizard. Yes yes, I know. Life and death! Not very original, but definitely very entertaining. My husband and I level our two wizards together like we used to do back when we played World of Warcraft, only this time there is less bickering between us and more of just having fun. We laugh together as we play, rather than get frustrated. And sometimes I wish that we did have a son or daughter so that we could play the game with them, too. I guess we'll just have to wait for our little nephew/niece, and hopefully by that time, Wizard101 will still be thriving.
If you look at my profile you will find my Twitter account. I do not use a separate account for my Wizard101 ramblings, I just simply don't have enough time to manage two accounts. So if you do follow my Twitter account, just realize that I have a grown-up. Most of the time I chat about video games, including Wizard101 and I am definitely not a potty mouth but it isn't necessarily kid-friendly. Follow at your own risk, please, or be 16+. Anyway, I look forward to using the site more and blogging during the week!
