The amount of complaining that is going on over the updates, in terms of how much things cost and how they can be paid for (in-game gold versus crowns only) has reached a feverish pitch. Maybe it's just because I'm an old geezer and I understand that it takes money to run a business, but when people complain about KI trying to make money (GASP!) I have to roll my eyes.
Running a company takes money! The front-end costs of merely creating the game (i.e., the schools, the spells, the worlds, the dialogue) is intense. Artists, programmers to write code and build servers, paying the electric bill ... all of this must be paid for, before a single member has signed up or bought crowns. Then there is the need to keep the game going - fixing bugs, crashes, etc. while at the same time paying for staff and other resources to develop new worlds, more content, etc. to keep current players interested and attract new players.
Here you go, complainers. Check out this link: http://tiny.cc/6C68j
If you're too lazy to click on it, I will summarize it for you. FaceBook has been available for five years, and it doesn't expect to turn a profit until 2010. When you think about the fact that every time you click on ANY content link in FB one or more new ads pop up in your sidebar, that's a LOT of advertising revenue. Yet they still are operating in the red.
So don't be too hard on KI for launching new features that aren't included in the membership (i.e., henchmen must be paid for with crowns instead of in-game gold). And don't complain too bitterly if you use crowns to access the game and, as a result, can't use 18+ chat.
I'm not asking you to make a donation to KI or even put a bumper sticker on your car that says "I LUV W101".
Just take a moment to think how empty your life was before W101.
Now go play the game and enjoy. :-)
