How Wizards Stay Connected! *my.diaryofawizard.com*

The amount of complaining that is going on over the updates, in terms of how much things cost and how they can be paid for (in-game gold versus crowns only) has reached a feverish pitch. Maybe it's just because I'm an old geezer and I understand that it takes money to run a business, but when people complain about KI trying to make money (GASP!) I have to roll my eyes.

Running a company takes money! The front-end costs of merely creating the game (i.e., the schools, the spells, the worlds, the dialogue) is intense. Artists, programmers to write code and build servers, paying the electric bill ... all of this must be paid for, before a single member has signed up or bought crowns. Then there is the need to keep the game going - fixing bugs, crashes, etc. while at the same time paying for staff and other resources to develop new worlds, more content, etc. to keep current players interested and attract new players.

Here you go, complainers. Check out this link: http://tiny.cc/6C68j

If you're too lazy to click on it, I will summarize it for you. FaceBook has been available for five years, and it doesn't expect to turn a profit until 2010. When you think about the fact that every time you click on ANY content link in FB one or more new ads pop up in your sidebar, that's a LOT of advertising revenue. Yet they still are operating in the red.

So don't be too hard on KI for launching new features that aren't included in the membership (i.e., henchmen must be paid for with crowns instead of in-game gold). And don't complain too bitterly if you use crowns to access the game and, as a result, can't use 18+ chat.

I'm not asking you to make a donation to KI or even put a bumper sticker on your car that says "I LUV W101".

Just take a moment to think how empty your life was before W101.

Now go play the game and enjoy. :-)

A discount for members might be a good middle ground. And coming up with constructive ideas like you have is always a good starting point! Thanks Tia.

I completely understand the need for money to pay the bills but it is kind of hard to keep dishing out the cash when you are already paying a subscription to play and then paying to use the equipment too is getting kind of out of control. I think subscribers should get a break or a discount nothing for free mind you just cheaper.

I love the new Seamstress feature. I am surprised it costs so little. I don't have to wear that floppy hat anymore (the one with the flower on it) to use the great stats.

Speaking of little cost ... it has probably been almost a year since I bought that hat from Zeke ... I spent that much the last time I went to the movies (and only got 2 hours of fun).

Wizard has put so much time into the changes we have requested, I think they have done a terrific job. I was disappointed that the few things I wanted to buy had crowns for the price-MANY things were gold, but the few I wanted were crowns; but I was only disappointed because at the moment I have NO crowns. can't get any til the first. The game is fantastic, constantly changing and improving, and I love that I can put my grandson on and I know he is safe, entertained and being challenged at the same time! And think about it-we have NO ads! Please don't change THAT-I could not deal with this game and ads. The small prices we have to pay are nothing compared to what we get out of this game, with our families!

Great post! Maybe I will just post a link to this tomorrow. After all, I couldn't say it any better. :)

I bought a $20 gift card (10,000 crowns) on Tuesday in anticipation of the update. I didn't intend to get a mount - I wanted money for the SEAMSTRESS (big surprise to my pals here, haha). I not only stitched all of the clothes I wanted (multiple outfits for three wizards), I bought a mount (that can be shared between all four of my wizards) and converted crowns to gold to buy a new deck for my level 46 Life wizard (Fiona WillowWhisper). AND I still had crowns left over. I honestly can't remember the last time I had THAT much fun for $20. So once again, big phooey on all the whiners!

I have to say that I have already spent more than 5000 crowns this weekend and have already bought another 5000. I've given away crowns and will try to give more, BUT I would NEVER NEVER expect to play the game or get any of the new "perks" for free. People must realize if KI doesn't receive ANY money from the new features, there won't BE any new features in the future...

Now about that bumper sticker..... :)
